A guide to the Vise Library's print reference book collection.

Reference Books

Vise Library has its reference books displayed together on some two-stack shelves in the middle of the library floor, between the Young Adult Fiction and some study carrels. They present a broad and rich resource for users and promote the causes of scholarship and learning at the university. This Guide will include an organization of the reference books according to the ten general categories of knowledge used by the Dewey Decimal System of Classifications.

(You can view those categories on the tabs that follow this "Home" tab, at the top of the page, beginning with "Information.")

Each reference book that falls within a classification will receive an individual entry, which includes an image of the book, its title, author, date published, call number (used to locate the book on the shelf), and a brief description of its contents or annotation. It is anticipated that users of this Guide will be able to identify a reference book of interest, then find it on the shelves mentioned above. Any of the librarians will be glad to help you use this Guide or locate a book.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for possible future purchases for the library, to add to the reference books or anywhere else in the library, please email us at library@cumberland.edu or call us at 615-547-1299.
