Circulation Services

Only currently enrolled Cumberland University students and Cumberland faculty and staff may check material out of the library.

Students, faculty, and staff may borrow books for three weeks and DVDs for one week.

The following materials are for library use only: Periodicals (magazines, journals and newspapers), Reference books, Reserve items, and Microfilm.

Please note that users assume full responsibility for all borrowed items.

Community members and other visitors do not have check-out privileges but may use the library's collection in-house during regular hours.

Students, staff, and faculty are expected to have a Cumberland University ID which will serve as the library card for the user. ID cards are required in order to check out materials or use course reserves.

Late Fee & Lost Book Replacement

Late fees are ten cents per day per item, with the exception of videocassettes, DVDs and reserve items, which are one dollar per day per item.

Patrons will not be able to check out new materials until overdue items are returned.

A replacement cost equal to the cost of the materials, if available, or the average price of materials in the respective discipline will be charged for lost materials.

In addition, a $10 fee will be added to each item to cover the cost of purchasing, cataloging, labeling, and other processing tasks to make the replacement copy shelf-ready, plus a hold will be put on the user's account until the replacement cost is paid.

Failure to return/renew library material on time can result in restriction of library privileges and holding of grades at the end of the semester.

Borrowing Reserved Textbooks

Reserved textbooks can be borrowed for up to three (3) hours at a time by students.

Students may borrow up to two (2) textbooks at a time.

Reserved textbooks must stay in the library and may not be removed from the building, regardless of if they have been checked out by a student.

Items must be returned in the condition in which they were checked out.
