Vise Library Policies

Currently enrolled Cumberland University students and Cumberland faculty and staff may check material out of the library. Community members with Community Member cards may check out items from the general collection, the YA collection, the Juvenile collection, and the DVD collection.

Cumberland students, faculty, and staff may check out up to ten (10) items at a time. Community members may check out up to two (2) items at a time.

Books may be borrowed for three (3) weeks with two (2) renewals and DVDs for seven (7) days with two (2) renewals.

The following materials are for library use only: periodicals (magazines, journals and newspapers), reference books, reserve items, and microfilm.

Please note that borrowers assume full responsibility for all borrowed items.

Students, staff, and faculty are expected to have a Cumberland University ID which will serve as the library card for the user. ID cards are required in order to check out materials or use course reserves. Community members must show ID when checking out items.

Vise Library is a fine free library.

Patrons will not be able to check out new materials until overdue items are returned. For students, if items are not returned or are returned damaged, a hold will be put on the student's account, which may result in the student not receiving final grades, registering for classes, receiving transcripts, or graduating.

A replacement cost equal to the cost of the materials, if available, or the average price of materials in the respective discipline will be charged for lost materials. Holds will not be removed from student accounts until the librarians receive the physical item.

Reserved textbooks can be borrowed for up to three (3) hours at a time by students.

Students may borrow up to two (2) textbooks at a time.

Reserved textbooks must stay in the library and may not be removed from the building, regardless of if they have been checked out by a student.

Items must be returned in the condition in which they were checked out.
